Midas: Setup and First Print

Step-by-step guidance for setting up the Midas printer and completing the first print.

Overview

This article provides step-by-step guidance for setting up the SprintRay Midas printer and completing the first print. It covers unboxing, workspace preparation, device activation, network configuration, and the basic printing workflow.

In the Box

Confirm that all components are included before installation:

  • Midas printer
  • Cartridge template
  • Cleaning cloth
  • Support snippers
  • Gloves
  • Onboarding card
  • Power cable

Setup

  • The environment where Midas operates directly impacts print quality. For best results:
  • Place the printer on a stable, level surface
  • Avoid exposure to dust, direct sunlight, vibration, or heat sources
  • Position the unit near other SprintRay equipment to support workflow efficiency
  • Use the leveling feet on the base of the device to ensure proper alignment
  • A clean, stable workspace promotes consistent print outcomes.

Powering On the Printer

  • Connect the power cable to the rear of the unit.
  • Press the power button located on the back panel.
  • Follow the touchscreen prompts to begin initial setup.
  • The printer will automatically run its startup sequence.

Network Connectivity

Midas requires an active internet connection to send print jobs, synchronize with SprintRay Cloud, and support design service workflows.

Wireless Connection

  • Select the desired Wi-Fi network from the list
  • Enter the network password
  • Confirm connection on the touchscreen
  • This option is suitable for standard office networks.

Wired Connection

  • Plug an Ethernet cable into the LAN port
  • Select LAN during setup
  • Recommended when advanced security protocols or weak Wi-Fi signals are present.
  • If connectivity issues occur, a network administrator may need to adjust firewall or security settings.

Preparing for the First Print

Before starting a print, ensure the following components are installed and accessible:

Cartridge Template

  • The cartridge template enables precise capsule placement.
  • Position it on the print glass according to the alignment markings
  • Confirm that it sits level and does not shift
  • Remove only when cleaning the print glass
  • Printing should not begin without the template in place.

Barcode Scanner

Midas uses the built-in scanner to verify:

  • Capsule material
  • Capsule shade
  • Expiration date
  • Lot information
  • Each capsule must be scanned before placement.

How to Print with Midas

1. Select or Create a Print Job

Print jobs are created in RayWare Cloud or directly through SprintRay Cloud Design Services.
Once created, the job will appear in the Queue section on the Midas touchscreen.

2. Review Capsule Requirements

The job screen displays the number of capsules needed and the associated slot indicators (square, triangle, circle).
Prepare the appropriate capsules based on the material and shade.

3. Scan the Capsule

Hold each capsule under the barcode scanner.
Scanning confirms identity, verifies expiration, and initiates tracking for the print.

Do not remove the safety film until after scanning.

4. Remove the Safety Film

After scanning, remove the protective film from the optical window located on the bottom of the capsule. Avoid touching the glass window.

5. Place the Capsule

  • Place each capsule into the designated slot indicated on the touchscreen.
  • Ensure the resin press end faces downward
  • Confirm the capsule is fully seated in the slot
  • Midas can print up to three capsules simultaneously.

6. Start the Print

Initiate printing from the touchscreen.
During the process:

  • The print arm will slowly press the capsule
  • Resin is dispensed and cured layer-by-layer
  • The arm will rise automatically at completion
  • Do not touch the print arm while the printer is operating.

7. Remove the Capsule

Once the print cycle completes:

  • Lift the capsule from the print glass
  • Pull the tab to detach the disposable build platform from the capsule
  • The printed restoration is now ready for post-processing.
