Getting Started With AI Studio

This article explains how to access AI Studio, understand its design tools, and create restorations and appliances from your scan data.

Overview

AI Studio is SprintRay’s AI-powered design platform built directly into your SprintRay Cloud account. It analyzes scan data, detects margins, generates restoration proposals, and provides intuitive editing tools for refining anatomy, occlusion, and fit. Once a design is finalized, it can be sent directly to Print Setup for immediate fabrication. AI Studio is included at no additional cost for all Midas users and requires only a SprintRay Cloud login.

How to Access

To begin using AI Studio:

• Verify that the Midas printer is linked to your SprintRay Cloud account
• Sign in at dashboard.sprintray.com
• Select Studio from the top navigation menu
• Click Start New Treatment
• Add a new patient or select an existing patient from your list

AI Studio will guide you through selecting the appropriate treatment type and uploading the necessary scans.

Treatment Types in AI Studio

AI Studio currently supports a variety of clinical indications, with additional workflows actively in development.

Cemented Restorations — crowns, inlays, and onlays
Retainer — removable retainer appliances
Coming soon: Implant Crown and Surgical Guide workflows

Cemented Restorations Workflow

Upload Scans

Begin by uploading upper and lower scans in proper bite relation. AI Studio accepts STL, PLY, and OBJ files. PLY format allows for color visualization, which can be especially helpful when reviewing anatomy or identifying margin transitions.

For best results, ensure that:

• Adjacent teeth are intact and well captured
• There are no adjacent crown preps
• Adjacent inlay/onlay preparations are acceptable
• The preparation provides at least 1 mm of clearance
• Margins are rounded or chamfered
• Undercuts are avoided, as they may block proper insertion

Once scans are uploaded and verified, click Next.

Select Teeth and Restoration Types

Click on the teeth requiring treatment. Each selected tooth can be assigned a restoration type: Crown, Inlay, or Onlay. Teeth can be deselected with a second click if needed.
Adjacent inlay/onlay restorations are supported; however, adjacent crowns are not yet available.

Define Prep Margins

AI Studio automatically generates a margin line, but the user should review and refine it as needed. Margin edits include:

• Left-clicking to add points
• Dragging points for fine adjustments
• Right-clicking to remove points
• Drawing custom line segments for precise control

Visibility tools allow adjustments to arch transparency for easier margin inspection.

Position the Library Tooth

AI Studio proposes a draft restoration using a library tooth. Positioning tools include:

• 3D gimbal for movement, rotation, and scaling
• 2D gimbal for axial adjustments

Verify that the restoration fully covers the preparation, aligns with the occlusal plane, and blends naturally with surrounding dentition.

Refine With Sculpting Tools

To optimize anatomy and contact points, enable the heat-map overlay.
Heat-map indicators:
• Negative values = intersections
• Positive values = gaps

Available sculpting tools include:

• Morph (large shape changes)
• Add/Remove (localized adjustments)
• Smooth/Flatten (refinement and contouring)
• Undo and Reset controls for quick corrections

Depending on your finishing workflow, leave:

• 100–200 microns of intersection for polishing
• Slight positive spacing for staining/glazing

Visualization and Fit Tools

Use the X-ray mode for a semi-transparent view of the internal adaptation. This helps verify seating, thickness, and overall preparation fit before moving forward.

Minimum Thickness Check

AI Studio automatically evaluates the restoration for a minimum thickness of 1 mm.
If thin areas are detected, an alert will appear with an option to automatically correct them. You may accept the correction or revert to your previous version.

Finalize and Send to Print

Select Send to Print Setup to prepare the case for fabrication. You can add the design to an existing job or begin a new one.
Confirm:

• Printer selection
• Resin type and shade
• Job arrangement

If preferred, Autopilot can be disabled to manually review supports before printing.

Retainer Workflow

Upload Scans

Upload upper and lower scans exported in bite relation. Supported formats include STL, PLY, and OBJ. Files may be uploaded directly from Cloud Drive or from local storage. After both scans load, click Next.
