ProWash/Dry: Replacing the Solvent

Drain and replace IPA in the ProWash/Dry to maintain optimal wash performance.

Overview

Over time, isopropyl alcohol becomes saturated with resin and loses its ability to effectively clean printed parts. ProWash/Dry uses hydrometers and controlled solvent management to maximize IPA life, but periodic replacement is required. This article explains how to safely drain used IPA, refill the reservoirs, and properly dispose of solvent.

Drain Solvent from ProWash/Dry

ProWash/Dry comes with a drain hose clipped to the back of the unit. Gently pull the hose free before use.

  • The metal tip is the quick-connect inlet that attaches to the drain ports on the front of each chamber.
  • The plastic clamp at the outlet controls solvent flow.

Draining Procedure

  1. Ensure the outlet clamp is in the locked position.
  2. Press the metal tip firmly into the quick-connect port until it clicks into place.
  3. Place the outlet end of the hose into an appropriate disposal container.
  4. Unlock the outlet clamp to begin solvent flow.
  5. Once draining is complete, press the outer ring of the quick-connect port toward the unit to release the hose.
  6. Clean any residue inside the chamber using the provided brush and a paper towel.
  7. Repeat the process for Chamber 2 if necessary.

Add Solvent to ProWash/Dry

  1. Open the reservoir lid.
  2. Add at least 500 mL of solvent to each chamber.

IPA 91% is recommended. IPA 99% or ethanol may be used, but chamber level sensors may not function fully until several wash cycles have been completed.

If insufficient solvent is added, the onboard system will notify you.

Always close the reservoir lid after filling to reduce evaporation and preserve solvent life.

Note: Hydrometers may float briefly after refilling. They will typically sink within a few minutes once stabilized.

How to Dispose of IPA

ProWash/Dry is designed to extend IPA life and reduce waste, but used IPA remains hazardous.

  • Store drained IPA in its original container when possible.
  • Never flush IPA down the drain.
  • Dispose of used IPA through a certified hazardous materials collection facility in accordance with local regulations.

Consult your local environmental agency or EPA office for proper disposal guidance.

If IPA becomes saturated frequently, review wash volumes, resin type, and cleaning frequency to ensure proper maintenance intervals.
